Change an Officer's date of birth, everything you need to know!
Sometimes, a director's date of birth (DOB) may be recorded incorrectly during the company incorporation process or when a new director is appointed after incorporation. As part of the team, it's essential to guide clients through the process of rectifying this information. Accurate records with Companies House are vital, and addressing the issue promptly can help prevent future complications. Here's what you need to know to support clients in correcting a director's DOB. Correcting a Director's Date of Birth During Incorporation If a director's DOB is incorrect during the incorporation of the company, it's important to notify Companies House for the necessary amendments. Clients should be aware that the processing of the change can take up to 2 months, depending on Companies House's workload. What Happens Next? Once Companies House processes and approves the application, a one-month "cooling-off period" will begin. During this period, any objections to the change can be raised. If no objections are received, the corrected DOB will be reflected on the public record. This ensures the director's details are fully updated and available to the public. What We Need from the Client To move forward, we will need the following from the client: Director's ID: A valid, clear copy of the director’s identification to verify their identity for the amendment. Correcting a Director's Date of Birth After Appointment If the director's DOB is incorrect after their appointment, the process is usually quicker, often taking just a few working days. This speed applies to corrections made when a director's details, including DOB, were inaccurately recorded after their appointment. What we Need from the Client As with corrections made during incorporation, we'll need: Director's ID: A valid, clear copy of the director’s identification for verification. Pricing Information We offer competitive pricing for clients requiring assistance with correcting director details: Director Only: £49.99 + VAT Covers correction of one director’s DOB from incorporation. Includes completion and submission of necessary forms to Companies House. PSC Only: £19.99 + VAT For clients who need to update the Person of Significant Control (PSC) details. Director and PSC: £69.98 + VAT Includes both director’s DOB correction and PSC updates. Same Process for an LLP The process for correcting the director’s DOB for an LLP (Limited Liability Partnership) is the same. However, the appropriate form for LLPs will need to be filed. Why Should You Encourage Clients to Act Quickly? Updating incorrect details swiftly is essential to maintaining accurate company records with Companies House. Delaying these corrections could lead to issues in the future, especially when the client needs to file annual returns, obtain business loans, or meet other legal obligations. How You Can Help By assisting clients with correcting a director’s DOB or other company details, you'll ensure their records are accurate, up-to-date, and compliant with Companies House regulations. This will help prevent complications down the line. Encourage clients to get in touch as soon as possible, and reassure them that you're here to help every step of the way.
