Why can I not certify my own ID documents?

Unfortunately we cannot accept documents which you have certified yourself.  Our identification requirements are governed by HM Revenue & Customs regulations of which the most up to date are the Money Laundering, Terrorist Financing and Transfer of Funds (Information on the Payer) Regulations 2017. These regulations dictate that as we do not meet our customers or majority shareholders companies we do business with face to face, we should ensure that any Identification (ID) and Proof of Address Documents provided, should be certified by an independent professional person (if within the EU area).  If a customer is outside the EU, the documents need to be notarised by a public notary.
